MESSAGE FROM IPA CHAIRMAN
MARK CHAILLET

NEW RULING ON IPA DIVISIONS

To keep up with the continual progress of our athletes and the lifting community, the IPA Executive Committee announces that it now allows Amateur lifters who achieve a Professional total to continue to lift in the Amateur division pending 100% drug testing.

A cornerstone of the IPA's mission is to create the fairest playing field possible. In the past, it was required that all lifters who entered a meet as an Amateur and totaled a Professional total be immediately moved to the Professional division with an option to lift in the Elite Amateur division (Professional totals, 100% drug tested, paid for by the lifter).

The IPA separates the weight classes into divisions based on totals, equipment use, and drug-free status. This gave rise to three divisions: Professional (Professional, non-drug tested), Amateur (Amateur, random drug-testing with a cap on the totals for each weight class), and Elite Amateur (totals Professional, drug tested every competition).

With the new ruling, only the Professional and Amateur divisions will remain.  All Elite Amateur records will be incorporated into the existing Amateur Equipped and Raw records where applicable. The following is a detailed description of the divisions.

IPA DIVISIONS

The IPA has two divisions: Professional and Amateur so all lifters can co-exist under the umbrella of one Association. The Professional Division: Standard lifting rules apply (please see Personal Equipment section of Rule Book). The division is open to anyone who wants to enter as a Professional, no matter what he or she totals. The Pro Division is a non-drug tested division. The Pro Division has its own world and state records. Records will be kept in all subdivisions.

Amateur Division: Standard lifting rules apply (please see Personal Equipment section of Rule Book). The division is open to anyone who wants to enter as an Amateur, no matter what he or she totals. It is a 100% Drug Free Division.

Lifters will be tested for anabolic steroids through the use of urinalysis. Testing will be random and chosen by the Meet Director. Lifters can be tested at anytime during the meet at the Meet Director's discretion. An Amateur lifter must be prepared to provide a sample of his/her urine after competing if randomly chosen (there is no charge for the Amateur Division lifters unless the test results are positive). To ensure the integrity of the drug test, the appropriate official must process a urine sample.

If urinalysis test results are negative, the meet director will absorb the cost of the drug test. If urinalysis test results are positive, the lifter will be responsible for all expenses associated with the drug test. Subsequently, all of the lifter’s records and accomplishments to date will be disqualified, and the lifter will be suspended from IPA competition for life.

If the lifter enters a meet as an Amateur and totals a Professional total, he/she will be classified as an Amateur pending the results of 100% drug testing. Amateur records set or broken are pending drug test results. Amateur records will be kept in all subdivisions.

9/21/2012

The IPA announces the addition of knee wraps as legal equipment to the Professional and Amateur Raw divisions. The addition of knee wraps in the Raw division will kick off at the 2012 Connecticut State Open Powerlifting Championships September 22, 2012.

Updating the IPA's Raw division to a "Raw Modern" division is important from a safety standpoint for the lifters, for continuity among powerlifting associations, and for All-Time Record keeping.

Powerlifting's All-Time Record statistician, Michael Soong, dedicates untold hours ensuring the accuracy and integrity of powerlifting's records. Michael tracks only "Raw Modern" records (and notates All-Time records done sans knee wraps).

We hope you will be happy with our decision.  Please feel free to voice your opinions on the IPA Facebook page, or at ipapower2@gmail.com.

We saw some historic lifting at the 2012 IPA Strength Spectacular.

For results from the 2012 IPA Strength Spectacular Powerlifting and Bench Press Championship, visit "Meet Results" on the IPA Home Page.

Bobby Fields (217.7 lbs. bwt.) had a historic day squatting an
IPA record 840 lbs., followed by a HUGE 605 lb. IPA record bench,
rounding out his award winning performance with a 680 lb. dead lift.

Janet Faraone is one of the IPA's bench press dynamos!
She nearly tripled her bodyweight benching 375 lbs. bench press at 130.7 lbs. . . . need I say any more!
Janet took 385 lbs. out for a try on her third attempt; but missed.  385 is clearly in her future.

Big Bill Crawford always wows the crowd with his dynamic lifting.
Bill decided to lift in the full power meet opening with an 850 lb. squat,
then jumping straight to 950 lbs. for two unsuccessful attempts.
Bill followed his big squat with an even more impressive 800 lb. bench,
rounding out his day with a 550 lb. pull. Bill won the
Best Lifter Award in the Professional Men's Open Division.

MESSAGE FROM MARK CHAILLET, IPA CEO
Welcome to the new IPA website!

I hope you enjoy the new fresher look and ease in navigating through the information
available on the site. Still available in a simplified format is a World Record look-up
feature, the IPA Calendar of Events, Meet Results, and the IPA Rule Book. We added
some new features to the site including a blog page, Facebook, Twitter, You Tube,
Flicker, and an eSTORE featuring IPA tee shirts and record certificates.

We redesigned the site to be informative, and importantly, to enable us to be more
interactive and communicative with one another.

WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!! Ideally, our vision is to become a clearinghouse
of information for our membership. We welcome your opinions, training tips and
programs, questions, pictures, and video.

Formation of the IPA European Alliance I am proud to announce the formation of the IPA
European Alliance headed by Russia’s Andrey Paley. We look forward to a synergistic
relationship with Andrey and his Executive Committee in expanding the IPA across Europe.
We welcome all our new international lifters.

The IPA European Alliance boasts a full calendar of events for 2012. The 2012 IPA
European Alliance events calendar is posted in the Calendar of Events and in the
International Committee page on the new website.

2012 IPA Calendar of Events

2012 IPA World Powerlifting Championships
With the expansion of the IPA into Russia and Europe, we agreed to hold the 2012 IPA
World Powerlifting Championships in Sochi, Russia May 29 - June 3, 2012. Sochi is the
home of the 2014 Winter Olympics. The meet is open to all U.S. IPA lifters. We
recognize this is short notice for our U.S. lifters, but after much consideration, we felt this
would be a great way to kick-off the expansion into Europe. Going forward, the IPA
Nationals and the summer Strength Spectacular will serve as qualifying events for the
World competition. For more information, visit
www.powerlifting-russia.ru. More
information about the 2012 Worlds will follow.

Jim Howell is the new IPA New York State Chairman and is bringing a new meet to the
IPA calendar. The Ultimate Powerlifting Challenge will be held in Ithaca, NY on March
31st. For more information, visit the IPA Calendar of Events to download an entry form.

The 2012 IPA Strength Spectacular is scheduled for June 23-24 at York Barbell
Company. The annual summer strength event features the newly renamed IPA Strength
Spectacular Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships, the North American
Strongman national qualifier Keystone III Strongman Show, and an RKC Kettlebell
Challenge. The Strength Spectacular leads to the 2012 IPA Raw Nationals scheduled for
August 18, also at York Barbell Company.

Interested in Running an IPA Meet or serving as a State Chairman?
We welcome new meets to the IPA Calendar of Events. We are always interested in
adding quality meets run by experienced meet directors to the Calendar. If you are
interested in serving on the IPA State Chairman Committee or are considering
sanctioning a meet with the IPA we’d love to hear from you.

I am excited about the direction of the Association and the new IPA Executive
Committee’s in both the U.S. and in Europe. The Association has a lot of exciting events
scheduled for 2012. We are happy to have you along for an exciting ride bringing the IPA
into the forefront of Powerlifting. Please remember that you the lifters are the heart and
soul of the IPA. Your input is extremely important to us.

Best Wishes,
Mark Chaillet
